What inspires you?

"What inspires you?"

That's what we were asked when being given a theme for an upcoming art show, Muse-Box.  It's a bit of a head spinner because the things that inspire me are so big... like people, life, and love!  How do you show that?  What am I going to draw to depict that?!  Keeping girly art in mind, I needed something involving creation.  Growing up, I loved the theme in some movies where fairies or nymphs would go through the world changing the seasons.  Then I added that with craft time because it's always time for craft time.  I wanted it simple and I wanted her to use what she had around her.  Here's what I came up with.

"I'm the Art Show, Deal with It" Legend of Korra!

When Avatar The Last Airbender was on the air, I was consumed with a hectic schedule being eaten up by 2-3 part time jobs, full time college courses, an internship at Second City beside earned classes and performances, and the little bits inbetween eaten up by a horrendous commute.  How I wish I had known it's beauty, and full on bending awesome-ness! Luckily, it caught up with me when one of my roommates upon coming to California was a bend head (do their fans have a term?), and it was quickly resolved!  Needless to say, I was ready when Korra was announced and even more ready to show my love when a tribute art show knocked at my door.

PixelDrip Gallery presents "I'm the Art Show, Deal with It" A Tribute to Legend of Korra art show will take place on March 23rd and 24th at Monk Space in Downtown LA. You can find details and directions here.

Press Paws at Gallery Nucleus!

You may not know this, but I'm very giving.  One time when I was younger, I left my shoes underneath the pew in church because I thought Jesus could use better footwear.  My mom turned me into an Indian giver, making me go back and get them!  Another time, I sneezed on someone and gave them a cold.  Yes, I'm very giving!

So when a show pops up where I can donate art for a good cause, I'm in!

Press Paws is a charity art event combining our loves for video games, art and animals.  It all happens February 9th at Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra.  I love this gallery, and I'm so excited to be a part of this show!  All proceeds raised will go to Whats Up Dog LA.  (Yay! Doggies!)

Here's a little peek- or rather a full, off kilter view of my contribution...

It's one month away.  Time to get excited, uh- now.

RETROholic art show & Figure Drawing Event!

Food truck Friday is almost here as well as the Honey Haus "RETROholic" art show.  It's a free art event, and apparently there's a variety of trucks packed with amazing food.  I've never really gave Food Trucks a second thought until moving out here.  It's such a huge thing!

As I love cartoons forever and always, when they said the theme for the show was Retro, I remembered my darling Strawberry Shortcake growing up!   So without further ado, here's the piece I did for it...

Later in the night, I'll be a featured artist along with Girls Drawin' to sketch us some Sugar Plum Fairies over at Gallery Godo in Glendale from 10pm to 1am on Friday.  Gallery Girls puts these amazing figure drawing workshops together in a variety of fun themes!  I've always wanted to go but usually I end up working since theme park hours are crazy hours and I'm the least senior artist.  So I'm very excited to go!  Expect some figure drawrings up on the blog soon!  Find more info on this event: here.  Stop by and say hello at one of these events!

Cassassy Souffle

When I first saw the character designs for the Sugar Rush-kins, I knew what had to be done... and now it has been done!

Princess Bride Heads

I visually decapitated some of the cast of The Princess Bride* and reproduced them in my sketchbook.  Fancy that!

*Note: To avoid confusion, they all still have their heads.

Bug Dancer Doodle

A doodle inspired by the Bug dancers in the Pixar Play Parade.  Her costume design and colors are probably really off, I tried to do it from memory.  These girls are so adorable in their colorful outfits and big smiles!

Mouth Time Travel Dream

(You can probably view it better here: http://cassieollie.deviantart.com/#/d5ei6ee )

Some quick sketches from my weird dream last night... The part I left out was that I saved my family's farm from the cavalry who were using their fighter jets (who happened to have their base in a huge hanger in the middle of one of our horse fields).  I did it with my fists and sass, too!  No gun necessary, which bummed my best friend (the best rifle ever).  While we were all like "eh, let this be done, we've lost too many soldiers", I was strolling back to my childhood home on the hill from our pastures, and WHAT'S THIS?  Someone grabs my hand.  I look at my hand weirded out, but it felt really nice to hold someone's hand, so I kept holding his hand and he said "let's run away together"!  And being the modern day Annie Oakley, said "Ok!"  Because if you're not ready to run into Adventure head on, don't talk to me!  Then the clouds turned really scary dark like they did when I was 11- red, blue, black, even purple within a few minutes of each other.  It was the scariest tornado watch I remember ever witnessing in the Midwest and it was in my dream about to ruin us running away!  I suggested we go back to my house, and he said he would be uncomfortable with my parents around, and I said "Fine, sit in the ditch.  I'm going to ask my mom to make me cookies."  Mid-fight, it started raining and I woke up!

TV Doodling and a Flower Girl

Whenever I feel burnt out I try to make it a point to do nothing.  So I watch an episode of my favorite show, or a movie to try to get my inspiration mojo back in business.  Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.  In this case, I didn't feel like working but I did feel like sketching for fun.  For fun!?

And then this one, too.

Work Break Doodles-- Sept. 8th 2012

Lately, I've opened super early on the weekends so I down a huge cup of coffee.  It was all going as planned- coffee in mah stomach- until pigeons showed up.  It was a first, but somehow, I know deep in my heart, they'll be back tomorrow.

It takes a lot to get me angry, but when it happens, it happens hard.

Merida

I have been wanting more watercolor in my life but found my watercolor pencils.  They're probably my favorite right now... or at least today.  They are my favorite today.

I'm in love with Brave.  Call it a little red headed bias or call it a good movie.  They're having an employee screening this weekend and if all works out in my schedule I will be seeing it twice on Saturday because I have an addiction.
