Little Mermaid

Quick little gouache painting. I painted it for someone who got engaged in a scene much like the one during the number "Kiss the Girl" in the Little Mermaid.  I should have asked more questions, because I want a crooning Jamaican crab la-la-la'ing during my engagement, too.

I did this for a co-worker since her goal of finding something Tagalong related in the parks has never came to fruition. I'll admit when she was talking about this bunny, I had no idea what she was talking about!  Though, it has been a loooong time since I have seen this wonderful film.

Joy Ride

I did this piece for a friend for Christmas. He's my Disneyland pal and he's always daydreaming about taking one of the trams for a joy ride. He's too shy to ever attempt this as well as Disney jail doesn't sound appealing. You have to think- if Disneyland is the happiest place on Earth.... then Disney jail has to be like the saddest place on Earth.

Here's some detail. This was done in gouache and ink.



And the rough sketch I began with. It's really dark from transferring it onto the paper.

Light Reading

Pardon the lighting, there is none in my apartment- Bah! I've been working on this Hermoine pic for the past couple of days. I've never used gouache before, so that was an experience. I got the hang of it within the last 5 minutes. I started the concept with a rough sketch (below). Her pose and body shape changed. It made no sense for her to be sitting on a huge book reading a book. I wanted the joke to be that this huge book is "light reading" for her- and the book she was reading was in the way of achieving that.

Adventures in Paper Art!

After watching a demo on how to do this paper cut out stuff (I'm not sure what it's referred to as...) from Brittney Lee a few weeks ago, I had to try it out. This is a gift for my dad. His birthday was a few days before mine in April... so yet again, retroactive... Sigh.

I had bought only a few color card options to work with so before I started cutting, I crudely did some experiments in photoshop to see what would look best. Here's a few of what I considered...



I ended up going with this one.



Then I started thinking about composition... did I really want it this simple? This was too easy, I wanted to do something else. So I added a cactus.



And hopefully, this is the route your eyes take...



I'm looking forward to doing this activity again in the future!
