What's Opera, Doc?

"What's Opera, Doc?" is one of my favorite Looney Tune shorts ever!  So when I had the opportunity to contribute to the 4th Annual Red Dot Auction for the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity, I was thrilled to get my finger paints out.  I have to admit it wasn't an easy decision for I also love "Feed the Kitty" but ultimately, I couldn't get passed the chubby horse.  I had a pony growing up that I named Twinkle, and the only thing that would've been better than my Twinkle pony would be to have a chubby pony with pink hair.  The only thing.  But I was really lucky.  How many kids have a pony?!  I'll stop with my complaining now. =P 

Disneyland Romances

We had an art contest at work with the theme, "What do you love best about Disneyland?"  This is the painting I submitted.  One of the best things about my job is that I get to create memories for people- and even more specifically, helping people propose!  Often, I get people coming up to get a sketch that says "Will You Marry Me?" and a couple of times, "Will you be my girlfriend?"  I think it's brilliant!  To have that single question forever treasured on a piece of paper.  When they look at it, they will both remember that moment when the question was popped.  A lot of engagements take place in front of the castle or in my favorite room, the Animation room!  I went with the Castle, remembering all the fun times getting to know my now boyfriend when we'd meet in the park to watch the fireworks or sit in front of the castle chowing down on a churro.  

This engagement is probably my favorite that I've come across on youtube... Also, this one. Oh, cuteness!

Blork and Tamela

When I lived in Chicago, I worked a lot of odd jobs in the Theatre scene while I attended college and also studied improv and comedy at Second City.  One of which was with Bootstraps Comedy Theatre for their production of "Hello Human Female" written by Matt Lyle.  His wife, Kim ran sound and music while I ran lights- huddled close in a high loft in the back of a small storefront theatre.  I really fell in love with the characters of the play, Blork and Tamela.  So when they commissioned me to do a painting of the two strange-lings for their newborn baby's nursery, I was floored!  I chose the part where they fell in love and Blork ate Tamela's hair because he liked it.  Seriously, I love this play.

Motown!

Muse-Box and Girls Drawing Girls are having another art and music event this weekend, this time with the theme of "Motown." Some of my favorite jams are from this era!  Two, in particular, are "My Girl" by the Temptations and "Please Mr. Postman" by the Marvelettes.  This was the perfect opportunity to sit and listen to each song multiple times and then draw something that summed the songs up for me.  Its one of my favorite exercises as an Artist- using rhythm and emotion as reference.  Kind of ethereal, I guess... but it's fun!

Little Mermaid

Quick little gouache painting. I painted it for someone who got engaged in a scene much like the one during the number "Kiss the Girl" in the Little Mermaid.  I should have asked more questions, because I want a crooning Jamaican crab la-la-la'ing during my engagement, too.
